Three days of singing and musical fun in May half term 2023

In May half term we held music holiday clubs at Clifton Green Primary School (York) and Easterside Academy (Middlesbrough) as well as a full day rehearsal for our Ryedale Primary choir.

Our week started at Easterside Academy learning songs such as “Eye of the tiger” and an afternoon build a band workshop with Chris Lamb from Musinc. We had an enthusiastic group with feedback such as “will there be another club like this?” and “I learnt how to use a microphone and sing in a group”.  The day ended with a performance for parents/carers and it’s great to see younger siblings get involved and sing along!

We spent Thursday running our first York holiday club at Clifton Green primary school. The day started with games and learning songs such as ‘Hakuna Matata’ along with Makaton signs. In the afternoon everyone got a chance to play an instrument and have a go at conducting the group and making a soundscape. Feedback from members included “I learnt how to properly control the way I use my instruments” and “I learnt that being a conductor is hard”.

Our week ended in Pickering with our Ryedale choir rehearsal. We started to learn the pieces for a workshop with the Kings Singers in July. After lunch the group was treated with ice creams and a chance to sing outside in the sun!  The choir are looking forward to joining the Ryedale festival concert on Friday 14th July.

Part of the aim of the Richard Shephard Music Foundation is to offer musical opportunities and experiences to local children. This is done both through our school programme and extra-curricular activities.
