October Half Term Report!
October half term was our busiest school holiday yet - full of lots of musical fun. Our week started with our first holiday club at St George’s Catholic Primary Academy in Scarborough, learning energetic songs such as ‘Build it High’ and exercising our creativity by drawing our own music in pictures. Everybody got the chance to make maracas and percussion instruments for the end of day performance. Feedback from the group included “I learnt lots of new things” and “I enjoyed drawing the music”.
On Wednesday we were at Easterside Academy in Middlesborough, holding musical workshops for two age groups (7-11 years and 4-7 years). In the afternoon they joined together for a performance including lots of scarves, bells and singing! “It was the best day ever” said our youngest member of the group!
We spent Thursday at Clifton Green Primary School in York with lots of talented musicians. The morning started with singing, and we were treated to a visit from Bamboo Tamboo in the afternoon. The group worked very hard and were keen to share the things they had learnt - including “You don’t put a beater upside down!” and “The beat of the drums”. One of our parents commented “My boys waited for this for days and were so excited.”
We ended the week in Pickering at our first Ryedale Choir rehearsal of the year and welcomed both returning and new members to the group. The group grew in confidence throughout the session, with an amazing performance at the end of the day. Feedback from choir parents included “My daughter has really grown in confidence singing in front of people” and “Lovely to see my daughter socialising with new friends”.
At the Richard Shephard Music Foundation, we aim to bring the benefits of music to all children. One way we do this is by offering musical experiences to local children - if you would like to join our mailing list, or for information on future clubs please do get in touch: info@rsmf.org.uk.
