His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant visits Ainderby Steeple Primary School
His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Mrs Johanna Ropner, visited the school to see their music lessons in action and learn more about our thriving school programme.
The children were absolutely delighted to have her there and proudly demonstrated their musical knowledge and confident singing.
Headteacher Rachel Peart said: “The children were delighted and privileged to perform to His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant. The musical program provided by the Richard Shephard Music Foundation has been incredible and has enabled the school to provide a specialist music teacher to teach a progressive and sequential music curriculum to all of our children. The opportunity has also enabled the teachers to further develop and extend their musical expertise through directly partaking in the music teaching and learning offer alongside the specialist teacher provided”
The visit was part of our growing schools programme where primary schools in the Tees Valley, North Yorkshire and York areas are receiving subsidised high quality music lessons for all children alongside extra choirs and music holiday clubs.
“We think it’s vital for children to experience music from a young age, so we focus our work on primary schools where children can learn the very basics of music and start to gain confidence in, and love for, singing,” said Cathy Grant, General Manager.
It’s a timely programme with the Government’s re-launch of the National Plan for Music Education recommending that all primary school children receive at least an hour of music lesson a week.
“We work in partnership with schools to enhance their music offer and allow them to have a music specialist visit the school each week. Over time this not only builds musical knowledge and confidence in the children but also helps build the confidence of other teachers in the school in delivering music,” continued Cathy.
“Most importantly, we want to ensure equal access to music, so that all children, whatever their circumstances, can gain both the health and wellbeing benefits of music and also the increased musical aspirations that can come from having a passionate and engaging music teacher.
