North Yorkshire Music Hub

The Music Service run six Music Centres running on a Saturday morning and some evenings after school. They are based in Scarborough, Whitby, Harrogate, Selby, Skipton and Northallerton.

The Music Centres are open to all ages and cater for a wide range of abilities. They run a range of ensembles including bands, orchestras, choirs, folk groups, guitar and ukulele and mixed ensembles for absolute beginners. For more inforamtion click here: Music Centres - North Yorkshire Music Hub

Bedale Band

Friendly, flexible, non competing band.  Brass and woodwind at the moment. We have many brass and a few woodwind instruments and can provide tuition for these so complete beginners are welcome. Just come along and 'have a go'!

Swinton & District Excelsior Band

We are a brass band based in the village of Swinton near Malton who have 3 different group levels - complete beginners, our Training Band and our Senior Band.  We offer Free membership, lessons and loan of instruments. It’s important to us that all our groups, even the beginners get the opportunity to perform in public. We ideally like the children to have their adult front teeth.  There is a need to commit to attend regularly at rehearsals and to practice at home. Other skills you will learn are to read music, playing in a group and working as a team. We also hold a number of social events throughout the year as well as concerts and the occasional contest

Malton White Star Band

The Training Band is for beginners and improving players.  Mostly young people of Junior and High School age with a couple of adult learners. Taking part in the Band Christmas concert. Main band - non-contesting community band - around grade 3 and above. Instruments and tuition are provided free.

Easingwold Town Band - Beginners' Group

Description: Our beginners rehearse at our bandroom on Fridays during school term-time, from 6.15 to 6.45 pm, tutored by Kyle Sherwin with assistance from Town Band players.  Kyle is a primary school teacher in York, a music graduate and an accomplished brass player.  The subscription is £5 per term, and instruments and beginner manuals are available on loan free of charge. There are opportunities for our learners to take part in the Town Band’s concerts in Easingwold’s excellent Galtres Community Centre. We aim to be as inclusive as possible, within the limitations of our rehearsal venue. We recommend home practice between rehearsals, for a few minutes every day, with parental support.

Young Crescendos

Young Crescendos is a youth choir based at Malton School for all young people in Ryedale aged 6 upwards who love to sing! The choir is led and run by Nicky Copley who started the choir in September 2022. In September 2024 Nicky is excited to be expanding Young Crescendos by opening Young Crescendos Pickering which will be based at Pickering Community Junior School.  Basement Beats

Basement Beats is open to young people in the Scarborough area looking to explore self-expression, emotional regulation and social interaction. Activities may include playing instruments together, listening and moving to music, song writing, using music technology, and more. The sessions take place weekly at St James Community Arts Centre, YO12 4DT, on Wednesdays after school, from 4.30pm- 6.30pm.

 The first hour will be an open group, available to anybody on a "drop-in" basis, followed by 20 minute pre-bookable slots.
